source of strength...

if it had not been for the Lord who was on my side, where would i be!?! i am encouraged today because i didn't feel like going to work, but i went, and it wasn't so bad. i am glad that the days are beginning to get better somehow, even though they aren't. i still feel frustrated and defeated sometimes because of the situation at school, but i see more and more everyday that i am not the only one having the problems that i'm having. i don't know if that goes far in the way of encouragement, but it's all good. i am beginning to find ways to make things work for me throughout the course of the day, throughout the course of classes 702 and 703. i know that things happen for a reason, and that there is a purpose for me there at k071 in room 349. but i don't see it! i don't know it! but i know that i am there. and i am staying for as long as the fight is in me, even during the times when i throw up my hands ( i do this alot but my baby is always there to encourage me to keep pushing). if i could just simply reach the unreachable kids in my class...

we all need somebody and that statement is even more true for youngsters. it is hard to be there for them though when they act the way they do. i don't like being an emotional punching bag just because someone else has their problems, but i am in a service position...and it really isn't about me. but then again it is to a certain extent, because i could leave that job and those kids and let someone else come in and try to help them. but what is accomplished by me exit? if there is such a thing as a winner and loser in this scenario, will i have lost because i quit? the reality is that a lot of the kids i see in my classes will end up in a school like the one i taught in last year. many of them do not think they will go beyond their neighborhood (they don't even know what 'neighborhood' menas...), so it's hard to get them to care about their educations. i am rambling on, so i'll stop!

a couple weeks ago i had a long conversation with the bus driver on the way home from work. i taught his son last year at metro. he told me that the work i was doing was very important, and that i shouldn't quit even though it sucks and it's hard teaching in a middle school. he told me that those kids need me...that they need to see people that look like them to teach them. he spoke of how appreciative he was of me as his son's teacher and that i helped him a lot. then i thought about how a few of my students passed that regents exam after spending a year with me in the math classroom. at first they had their attitudes and such. but by the end of the year they trusted me to help them grow. and they did and they were better people than when they had started. that is important stuff. i think about the times when kids were about to explode on teachers and principals at metro, but i was able to calm them down. they would listen to me. i think of those moments and wonder when that will transfer over to where i work now. i wonder if i will be able to get through to these little kids...because right now i don't think that i am doing much. i need to begin to see some kind of light at the end of the tunnel...

she told me that this is our song by keyshia cole...:)

I'm like a Sunday morning, you're like Friday night
And when we kiss it's the perfect weekend, no rain in sight
And when I'm feelin' incomplete, you're my missing piece
And when you need your breath taken away I'll be your thief

From the start to the end we don't need to pretend
That we're perfect all the time
'Cause we know what we have through the good and the bad
It's the strength that you can't deny

I don't need to find a million reasons why
This is us, this is us and this is how we love
Some ways we're different but together we're so right
This is us, this is us and this is how we love, oh yeah

And even if we fall apart we'll never feel alone
Just like the moon starts risin' our hearts bring us home
We can always find each other like the northern star
Doesn't matter where we are our love can't go that far

From the start to the end we don't need to pretend
That we're perfect all the time
'Cause we know what we have, through the good and the bad
It's the strength that you can't deny

I don't need to find a million reasons why
This is us, this is us and this is how we love
Some ways we're different but together we're so right
This is us, this is us and that's the way we love

We don't always see eye to eye
You might see a million colors, I just see it black and white
Ain't no way we could get much higher
'Cause when we touch it feels like fire
We both know how good this feels

Yes, we do baby because
This is you, this is me, this is us

I don't need to find a million reasons why
This is us, this is us and this is how we love
Some ways we're different but together we're so right
This is us, this is us and this is how we love

Baby this is how we love
This is how we love, yeah
This is how we love, yeah
This is how we love, yeah
